How to write a speech outline

Read the following speech outline that a student submitted.

Hook: How do you feel when you have to wait for something you really want? What if it was something you couldn't live without?

Thesis: Many people die who do not receive organ or tissue donations, but they could live if you choose to donate your organs and tissue.

Preview: Today I'd like to talk to you about the need for organ donors, how you can become and organ donor after you die, and finally, how your family and organ donor recipient benefit from your donation.

I. People around the world need transplants and they need our help.

       A. The problem is that there is a lack of organs and organ donors who make organ
transplantation possible.

      B. Organ donation is very important

II. I'm sure that you can see the need for people like you to donate your organs. But you
might be asking, how can I make sure my organs are donated after I die?

      A. Talk with your family about your decision.

     B. Mark your driver's license so that your license indicates your intent to donate.

     C. You see that it isn't difficult to be an organ donor.

III. Organ donation benefits both the donor's family and the recipients.

     A. A seventeen-year old girl died in a car accident, but the teenager gave life to two
other people. Her parents feel a sense of satisfaction.

     B. A mother dies, but another mother lives.

Summary: Today I discussed the need for organ donors, how you can become and organ donor after you die, and finally, how your family and organ donor recipient benefit from your donation.

Conclusion: Just think about this idea: What if the person waiting for an organ transplant was someone you love?
